Laurell John "Pops" Johannesen

Mr. Laurell John Pops Johannesen passed into eternal rest on the morning of August 21, 2010, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Parker Johannesen. He was born in Erwin, South Dakota, on June 16, 1918, where he lived until his graduation from high school. At that time, he enlisted in the Army, and served until the end of the second World War. After a brief time in civilian life, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served approximately 25 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by General Services Administration, and worked there for 18 years, until his retirement.

Mr. Johannesen was faithful in service to our Lord, serving as a Deacon and church treasurer at Providence Presbyterian Church. For the last nine years, he has been a faithful communicant at Kirk O' the Isles Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Johannesen is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Marjorie Dokken, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mrs. Luella Peterson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Mrs. Evelyn Hansen, of Salem, South Dakota; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Norma Johannesen, of Erwin, South Dakota. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Harry Brodmann of Richmond Hill, GA, with whom he lived for the last eight years. Other survivors are his grandchildren: Nancy Brodmann Peavy Robert, of Rincon, GA; Harry Brodmann III Cheryl, and Andrew William Brodmann Kathryn, both of Savannah, GA; and Joanna Brodmann, currently residing in London, England; his great grandchildren: Harry Ryan Brodmann, David Michael Brodmann, Joshua Brodmann Peavy, Alexander Dale Brodmann, Andrew William Brodmann, Jr., Scott Thomas Brodmann, Lydia Grace Peavy, and Michael Evan Brodmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel in Savannah on Monday, August 23, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be at Kirk O' the Isles Presbyterian Church on Habersham Street in Savannah on Tuesday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m. with graveside services at Hillcrest Abbey West to follow.

Mr. Johannesen's great grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances in honor of Mr. Johannesen to Kirk O' the Isles Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Savannah.
